Learn real accounting
by catching creatures.

A 2D creature-catching RPG where every battle is a real accounting question.

CPA Master: Accounting Legends is a 2D creature-catching RPG where every battle is powered by a real accounting question. It is built for students and accounting associates alike: complete beginners who have never opened a ledger, students working through their first accounting class, anyone deep in CPA exam prep, and licensed CPAs already out in the workforce. All of it is meant to actually be fun. Explore the Accounting World, build a team of 140 creatures, beat 7 Firm Partner gyms, and challenge the CPA Board Examiners, AUD, FAR, REG, and ISC, for a shot at the Champion and the CPA Master title.

Answer to attack

The battle

There's no side quiz mode. The question is the attack. Pick the right answer to land the hit; miss once and the difficulty backs off, string correct answers together and it ramps up, so it's always a fair fight tuned to what you actually know.

About Us

Why a creature-catching RPG turned out to be the cure for a boring flashcard deck.

CPA Master began with a familiar kind of frustration. Studying accounting usually means flashcards, dense textbooks, and practice questions that never explain why any of it matters. Somewhere between one more chapter and one more cup of coffee, a different question showed up: what if studying actually felt like playing? Games already know how to turn repetition into progress instead of a chore, so instead of bolting a quiz onto a textbook, an entire world got built where the accounting concepts themselves are the characters you catch, train, and battle.

Every creature, question generator, region, and line of story here was built from scratch: no templates, no reused asset packs, no shortcuts. It's meant for students working through their own accounting classes or CPA exam prep, and for anyone who's ever wondered what a debit actually does instead of just being told to memorize it.

Learning by doing

No separate quiz mode bolted onto a game. Every battle you fight is the studying.

Real CPA content

140 creatures, one per real accounting concept, and questions pulled from the actual CPA curriculum.

No busywork

Wrong answers cost a turn, not a grade. The game adapts to what you actually know as you play.

Team

One person built the whole world.

Justin Wei
Justin Wei
Founder & Solo Developer

Justin built CPA Master the summer after his freshman year at the University of Houston's C.T. Bauer College of Business, where he studies accounting and finance through the Bauer Honors Business Program. That summer he did not have a traditional internship lined up in finance or accounting yet. Instead he split his days between a nonprofit consulting externship with PwC and a market analyst externship with Pauv, learning what the work actually looks like from the outside in. Whatever hours were left, nights, weekends, the gaps between meetings, went into this game.

He did not build it to fill out a resume. He built it because he remembered exactly what studying accounting felt like: flashcards, dense textbooks, and practice problems that never explained why any of it mattered. So he set out to build something better for the students coming up behind him, all 140 creatures, every region, every question, by himself. If it helps one more student actually enjoy studying, or gives one associate a five minute break that feels less like work and more like fun, that is the whole point of building it.

Features

The systems running quietly behind every battle.

Adaptive difficulty

It reads your last 10 answers

Every fight starts from the difficulty band your badges have unlocked, but it does not stop there. Struggling eases the next question back toward Easy; answering well pulls it toward Difficult, a preview of the next gym before you have even earned it.

🟢 Easy 🟡 Medium 🔴 Hard
Last 10 answers

8 of the last 10 correct. The next question leans toward Difficult.

Weight shown is how much more likely that topic is to come up next.

Weak-spot targeting

It studies what you don't know

Accuracy is tracked per topic behind the scenes. Miss depreciation more than journal entries, and depreciation starts showing up more often, up to 3.5× more likely, until you close the gap. Topics you already have down still appear, just less often.

Never-repeat questions

Nothing repeats before its time

The exact same question can never appear twice in a row, and will not recycle for at least 10 questions after that. Among everything eligible, the one you have seen the least always wins, so brand-new material is served first.

Same question, two difficulty bands. The Hard options sit close enough together that guessing by size stops working.

Sharper wrong answers

The wrong answers get smarter too

Multiple-choice options are not random distractors. At higher difficulty they move closer to the correct value, so you cannot just eliminate the obviously wrong ones and guess your way through.

Mastery score

A real number, not just wins

Your Progress tab tracks a 0 to 100 Mastery Score blending accuracy, the difficulty you have actually been handling, and how fast you answer. It is a much better read on where you stand than a plain win or loss count.

Boss battles that test you

Bosses don't get softened

Firm Partners, your rival, and the CPA Board Examiners all add a difficulty floor on top of your personal ladder. Even if you have been coasting on Easy, those fights hold you to a real standard.

How to Play

Everything you need before your first battle, with real footage from the game.

Every fight is a real question

Correct answers land the hit. There is no separate quiz mode, the accounting is the battle.

The loop

Walk into tall grass

Wild creatures live in the tall grass patches scattered around each region. Walk in and one may appear.

Answer to fight

Weaken it with correct answers, then throw a Ledger Capsule to catch it. Wrong answers just cost you a turn, no permanent penalty.

Build your team

Keep up to 6 creatures in your active party; anything else goes to the Ledger Vault, safe and swappable anytime.

Beat the Firm Partner

Clear each region's gym to earn a badge and open the gate to the next region.

Watch for your rival

Your rival ambushes you at story milestones. Losing just sends you home to heal up and try again.

Face the Examiners

After all 7 badges: the CPA Board Examiners, Auditor Prime (AUD), The FAR Seer (FAR), Regulatrix (REG), and The Systemarch (ISC). Beat all four, and the Champion match for the CPA Master title awaits.

Saving your progress

The game autosaves after nearly every action to your browser's local storage, and there's also a manual Save button in-game if you want to save on demand. Sign in with an email and password from the title screen to sync your save across devices; playing as a guest still saves fine, just to that one browser.
